Rebuilt on the site of an old monastery destroyed in the 1930s, Gandan Muntsaglan was reopened in 1991. It still has beautiful tangka, one of which gives an idea of the architecture of the original monastery. Today, sixty monks live there year round, which explains the reduced visiting hours. It can be reached on foot from the center of Arvaikheer, being located only 1.5 km from the heart of the city.
