SHANKH MONASTERY
This monastery miraculously survived the purges of the 1930s. It owes its reputation to its links with Zanabazar, who spent his childhood there. It is also said that, for a time, the temple had protected the black banner of Chinggis Khaan, the one which symbolized the military power of the great khan. Only the central temple of the monastery was restored after it was reopened for worship in 1990. The ceremonies take place in the morning, from 9 am. Lost in the middle of nowhere, this monastery is especially the occasion to make very beautiful photographs.
