The sand dunes of Bor Khar or (Bor Khyar) are among the largest in the country. They are 180 km long and 15 km wide, covering a total area of 2,700 km². Their scenery is made all the more attractive by the fact that they are bordered to the north by the Bayan Nuur salt lake (which attracts rare birds during spring and autumn migrations) and to the south by the Khungui river. To get there from Ulaanbaatar, you'll need to organize this off-the-beaten-track trip through an agency. Alone, it's virtually mission impossible.
