It is named after an important monastery once located about 20 kilometers from the administrative capital, where up to 10,000 monks had served. This first monastery was razed during the purges of the 1930s, and most of the monks were eliminated or sent back to civilian life. The present monastery is therefore limited to a stone building, but nevertheless adopting the shape of a ger. An interesting statue of Sakyamuni can be seen here.
