NARVANCHIN MONASTERY
Religious building

Also known as Narobanchin, this monastery was destroyed in the late 1930s during the political and anti-religious purges that led to bloody massacres and the destruction of most of the country's temples and monasteries. Rebuilt in 1990, the relatively modern building has little of the charm of the old monasteries, but is well worth a visit if you have the time, especially as it is so close to the town center. It has now been reopened and houses around 30 monks.
