This festival celebrates the opening of golden eagle hunting, a discipline practiced by the Kazakhs at the western tip of Mongolia, in the village of Sagsaï as well as in Ölgiy. At the foot of the Altai Mountains, some sixty falconers gather every year to demonstrate the skills of their birds of prey and preserve their heritage. They take part in games and organize spectacular competitions between eagles, as well as sporting jousts.
