CHURCH OF SAINT-LOUP
This Southern Gothic church dominates the old suburb.
It owes its origins to a Benedictine priory, attached to the Sauxillanges abbey and founded in 995 by Hugues de Mercurol. In 1077, the canons of Saint-Cerneuf, hostile to this establishment, ransacked the church. The silhouette of the 13th-century Southern Gothic church dominates the old suburb. Begun in 1265, it was completed 150 years later. The most striking feature is the rib-vaulted porch. It houses a tympanum, whose badly damaged painting dates back to the19th-century restoration campaign. The bell tower is a 19th-century addition.
