FESTIVAL DE PENAFRANCIA

Naga is besieged by pilgrims who come to pay homage to the Virgin and participate in an impressive river procession.
It is the largest Marian festival in Southeast Asia. Thousands of people head to Naga to pay homage to Our Lady of Penafrancia. The week of festivities begins with the Translacion (which takes place on the second Friday of the month): the statue of the Virgin Mary is then carried on a pilgrimage to the cathedral of Naga. On the ninth day of the festival, the statue is transported to the minor basilica via an impressive river procession on the Naga River; all the boats are colored and tied together and pull the banca of the Virgin.
