BOUDES
Village of Boudes in a volcanic and viticultural region, where you can find several winegrowers' houses.
The Auvergne is not only a volcanic region, it is also a wine region. The village of Boudes bears witness to this. From the 17th to the 19th century, vines were cultivated on the slopes of the village. If in the 19th century they were affected by phylloxera, the winegrowers revived the activity. Today, the vineyards are part of the AOC Côtes-d'Auvergne. This past is reflected in the architecture of the village. In the medieval town, you will find several winegrower's houses. Going down along the Couzillou, many dovecotes have been built. They are also connected to the vineyards because the droppings of these birds were used as fertilizer. In the Middle Ages, Boudes was protected by an enclosure. Some remains of defensive elements can still be seen towards the fountain. Strolling through the alleys, one has the feeling that one is no longer in the Auvergne. It is surely the blond arkose constructions and their red Romanesque tiles that remind us of the South...
