FESTIVAL MASSKARA

It's a bit like the local Rio Carnival! Dances, parades, Latin music and decorated masks, the atmosphere is very festive.
The Masskara festival is one of the biggest events in the Philippines. Often compared to the Rio Carnival, it attracts several thousand visitors each year. Without religious or historical character, it was conceived in the early 1980s simply to raise the morale of the local population, then at its lowest due to the economic depression. The joyful smiles of the masks and the expressive dances animate the giant parades set to Latin music. The highlight is a dance competition, not to be missed.
