First mentioned in 1262 and then destroyed by several Ottoman assaults, the current cathedral was completed in the early eighteenth century under the direction of architect Andrea Pozzo. It can be identified by its dome in shades of green and its two symmetrical towers. Among the wonders to discover are the angels and the altar in the transept by the Baroque master Francesco Robba or the beautiful frescoes by Giulio Quaglio. Plečnik, meanwhile, designed the bishop's throne. 19th century dome painted by Matevž Langus.
