TREMPLINS DE PLANICA
The place, a must-see in the Tamar Valley, is a fabulous site dedicated to sporting exploits. Every year, this natural setting is transformed into a ski jumping mecca with tens of thousands of spectators, tents, dozens of buses, teams of journalists and the world's elite in the sport. On this site, the Austrian Sepp Bradl was the first man to fly over 100 m in 1936. The big springboard dates from 1969. In the same year Wolf (GDR) succeeded in reaching 165 m. Finland's Toni Niemenen broke 200m in 1994
(203m). 1997 was the year of consecration for Slovenia's Primož Peterka. At the end of March, he won the World Cup and, in front of 60,000 spectators, he was crowned winner for his brilliant season after the final event in Planica. In March 2005, the triumph was total for Norwegian Björn Romören. He raised the world record on the K 185 (the world's largest ski jump) to 239 m. The site is well worth a visit as it allows you to see the magnitude of the jumps made by the athletes. With a little courage, you can decide to climb to the top of the jumps by the stairs. The view is really impressive. Facing the mountains, looking at the springboard, whose track seems vertical, you realize the amplitude of the jumps and you
launch yourself. Finally, just for the experience... A zip line has been installed above the site and allows you to get a better idea of the sensation of flight experienced by the skiers with each jump.
