When you take the road to Kranj, there is a large religious building on your left. This is the basilica of Marija Pomagaj. It's quite surprising to see her there, sitting in the middle of the fields. However, it is famous for its pilgrimage in August, which brings together a large number of pilgrims from all over Europe. The Virgin and Child, painted by Leopold Layer in 1814, is known throughout Slovenia as painting is present in many homes. Pope John Paul II visited this country in 1996.
