Between the Strunjan saltworks and Cape Madona in Piran, the small bay of Fiesa, surrounded by hills and two lakes, has become a popular bathing area. A path offers superb sea views all the way to the Italian coast. The clay lakes were formed during the brick-making process. The smallest (6.5 m deep) is enclosed, while the largest, connected to the sea, is filled with brackish water. Their banks, classified as a nature park since 1989, are overgrown with lake vegetation, a safe haven for fish, birds and dragonflies.
