Ptuj's colourful carnival is very popular and features the famous kurent to hunt in winter.
This carnival features the Kurent, a character dressed in white or black sheepskin, with a toque topped with horns symbolizing the quarters of the moon. His eyes are circled in red, the figure is adorned with a long nose and a hanging tongue. The whiskers are made of twigs and the teeth are visible. He wears a leather belt with five bells. The Kurenti gather in groups, hopping about making noise and going from house to house to chase away the demons of winter and bring abundance. Folk atmosphere guaranteed!
