This Buddhist festival is held at the Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo, on the shores of Lake Beira, during the full moon of February (month of Navam). Established in 1979, this festival helps promote the country's traditions and commemorates the appointment of the two main disciples of Buddha. Carapached elephants, fire-eaters, drummers and masked dancers parade through the streets near the temple, illuminated for the occasion. A colorful show, admired by the faithful as well as by the tourists.
