Built in 1857, this 20-meter high tower originally had several functions. It served as a lighthouse, a clock and a bell tower. The glow of its oil lamps was visible up to 30 km away. It was in service until 1952. Today, it is an unmistakable landmark in the centre of Fort and has been designated as the "ground zero" of the country. This "zero kilometer" is the starting point for all distances measured between Colombo and other cities, similar to the one on the forecourt of Notre Dame in Paris.

One of the unmissable in Colombo because it does not have so many places to visit for a town of this size. This tower is part of the history and had successive operates… A good point of reference mark also when you walk.
