This large Edwardian building was built in 1895. Located in a high security zone during the war years, it is now possible to admire its completely renovated façade. Janadhipath Mawatha has indeed become free to walk on again since early 2015. It is one of the largest public buildings in Colombo, with architectural sections in Doric, Ionic and Corinthian styles. It may soon become an exhibition gallery. The current general post office is located at D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha, near Beira Lake.
