A superb group of buildings with colonial architecture. The Colombo racecourse was inaugurated on June 22, 1893. In 1922, this racecourse was the first in Asia to be equipped with an automatic betting system. In 1942, during the war with Japan, the British transformed the racecourse into an airfield. Abandoned for many years, the main building and an adjacent pavilion were purchased by the government and completely renovated in 2012, with plans to turn it into a commercial complex.
