This white mosque overlooking the port of Beruwela is one of the oldest on the island. According to local beliefs, members of the royal family of Yemen, Sheikh Ashraf Velliulah and his five siblings, landed at this very spot. The Sheikh was buried here upon his death in 1024 and a mosque was then erected by the administrator of the nearby mosque, Masjid Al Abrar. Nothing remains of the original mosque, the rectangular building that can be admired today was built in 1911 by a rich Muslim merchant.
