Built during the reign of Kandy's King Kirti Sri Rajasinha (1747-1782 AD), as evidenced by an inscription on a stone inside, this Buddhist temple features an imposing white dagoba and a Bodhi tree. The viharn houses a large 8-metre high statue of Buddha. The complex is most famous for its remarkable frescoes depicting the stages of Buddha's life, hand-painted by a single monk. These murals are considered to be excellent examples of the Sittara school of Kandy
