This temple is dedicated to Pattini, the Goddess of Chastity, healer of diseases, and one of the four protective deities of the Tooth Relic. She is the most revered goddess by the peasants of Sri Lanka, as she is invoked during periods of intense drought or famine. The origin of the temple is unknown. We only know that it is at least four centuries old, as it is mentioned in the writings of Robert Knox, taken prisoner by Rajasinghe II in 1658. It has the traditional Kandyan structure, rectangular in shape with a typical roof.
