Located in front of the Royal Palace, the Natha Temple is one of the Hatara Devale of Kandy, the other three being the temples of Vishnu, Kataragama and Pattini. These four Devalayas are worshipped by both Buddhists and Hindus. Built by King Vickramabahu III in the 14th century, the temple is the oldest structure in the city. Its distinct Dravidian style architecture with a stupa roof has dated the monument to the pre-Kandyan era. The vihara houses an imprint of Buddha's foot engraved on the stone.
