Looking up when you visit Kandy, your view will inevitably be drawn to this immense Buddha at the top of a hill, west of the city centre. The name of the temple (Bahirawa Kanda Temple) over which this stone giant watches over means "The Gnome Mountain". In the past, another temple stood here in honour of Bahirawa Deviyo, or "the lord of the gnomes", the guardian of the hidden treasures of the kings and queens of Kandy. From up there the view of the city is magnificent.

Immense bouddha sur un promontoire dominant Kandy. Vue splendide sur la ville et ses faubourgs.
