Opened in 1993, the Museum of Wall Paintings is under the Ministry of Culture and Arts and the Central Cultural Fund. It is the only museum on the island devoted exclusively to painting and whose theme is the evolution of rock paintings and murals in Sri Lanka. The few paintings on display are life-size reproductions of historical works, including the famous Sigiriya frescoes, as well as murals from several ancient temples ranging from the Anuradhapura Kingdom period to the modern era.
