INNER HARBOUR
The inner harbour of Trincomalee offers a very pretty sight. The harbour is huge (it is the fifth largest natural harbour in the world) and is bordered by an endless jetty on which all the major administration of the city and district is established. Formerly a British naval base, it was taken over by the Sri Lankan government in 1956. On the other side of the harbour, you can see China Bay, and on the right, Yard Cove. On the left and towards the south, the entrance to the roadstead is diminished by the right of way of Sober Island.
