MUHUDU MAHA VIHARA
The Muhudu Maha Vihara gathers the remains of a temple whose construction dates back 2,000 years. It was commissioned by the king of Ruhuna Kavan Tissa. This temple was born out of a legend: following a natural disaster, the king's daughter was sent to the waters in a golden vessel to appease the gods. On her return, she washed up on the beach, precisely on the spot where the Muhudu Vihara was built. Its pillars and three beautiful statues in the center of a rectangular base have been perfectly excavated from the sand during recent excavations.
