High castle with a beautiful view, a seigneurial dwelling and a Romanesque chapel constitute the vestiges of the original building
Château du Haut-Barr rises to an altitude of 470 metres. Perched on three rocky outcrops separated by a moat, it offers a fine panoramic view over the plain. First mentioned in 1123, it has undergone several alterations. The earthquake of 1356 caused its first damage. The Thirty Years' War was the final blow. What remains of the original building is a seigneurial dwelling and a Romanesque chapel. Today, access is via a Renaissance gateway built in 1583, which opens onto a small square just in front of the chapel.

Im Schloßhof befindet sich auch ein kleines Ziegengehege, welche immer wieder zu erheitern wissen.
Die Treppen sind eng und so muss man immer mal warten, ehe der Auf- bzw. Abstieg möglich ist. Wie gesagt, die Aussicht ist wirklich spektakulär, da man das ganze Rheintal überblicken kann und zur anderen Seite tief ins Elsass blicken kann.
Traumhaft schön! Sehr zu empfehlen.
