ABBAYE DE MÈGEMONT
Female abbey isolated in a valley on the borders of the Cézallier, proposing a visit to admire the ruins of the nave.
Isolated in a valley on the edge of the Cézallier, this female abbey built in the 13th century is considered one of the most beautiful in the Auvergne. In the 17th century, following the departure of the nuns, it was occupied by men. In 1793, it was sold as a national asset and became a farm, a function that it occupied until 1992, when the commune of Chassagne bought the church. A visit is an opportunity to admire the ruins of the nave, the wing of the conventual buildings and part of the surrounding wall. When leaving the place, do not follow the GPS and make sure to take the same path as at the arrival (the Côte du Moulin).
