BASÍLICA DE SAN CARLOS BORROMEO
Lombard neo-Romanesque basilica in the Almagro district, featuring a beautiful 5-metre-high representation of the Virgin Mary
It would be the pride of the inhabitants of the Almagro district all by itself, with its beautiful red and white façade. Inaugurated in 1874, it was the work of a young Italian architect, Ernesto Vespignani, who migrated to Buenos Aires with the aim of building a building in the Lombardy Romanesque Revival style. Observers will notice Byzantine touches in the interior design and the beautiful representation of the Virgin, 5 m high, in the small temple that crowns the dome.
