RODIN'S "THE THINKER"
One could think of a reproduction without much interest... but this is an original copy of Auguste Rodin's (1840-1917) "Thinker", the only one of its kind in South America and of inestimable value. Thanks to the casting technique used by the most famous French sculptor in the world, several copies of his famous statue have been made. This is the third edition, produced during Rodin's lifetime. Unfortunately the statue has been vandalized several times and experienced a few dark hours... especially in 2011 when after being covered with red graffiti the Buenos Aires City Hall sent a team to clean the statue with a water cannon... A major error that left irreversible damage. Isolated and lost at the end of Moreno Square some 200 metres from Parliament, the statue was originally intended to be placed within the Congress Palace. But this one was still under construction when the "Thinker" was transferred, so it could not be welcomed at the Congress or many misfortunes could have been avoided. While waiting for a possible transfer to a place where he can enjoy the looks he deserves, "El Pensador" as he is called here, is now protected by barriers to avoid an additional incident.
