MUSEO DE ARTE MODERNO DE BUENOS AIRES (MAMBA)
A museum with spacious, light-filled exhibition rooms and adequate storage space for works of art.
This museum was created in 1956 under the impulse of the art critic Rafael Siquirru in a former tobacco warehouse of the company Nobleza Piccardo. His main aim was to make visitors aware of avant-garde artistic trends. In 1987, the museum underwent a major renovation and modernization, and in 2005 it was forced to close its doors. In 2010, it reopened with spacious and bright exhibition halls, as well as adequate storage space for the works. More than 7,000 Argentine artworks from the 1940s to the 1960s are on display, including works by concrete artists, informalists, neo-figuratives, etc., as well as international works (Salvador Dalí, Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky, Delaunay, Mondrian, etc.). Note however that most of the exhibitions are mainly temporary. The audiovisual program is worth following: the museum regularly presents interesting cycles of films, short films, documentaries and experimental videos. The education section of the museum offers guided tours from Wednesday to Friday at 5 pm, without prior registration, but also art workshops for children, meetings with artists, debates... On Saturday and Sunday evenings, an open creative workshop allows visitors to experiment with the tools of the museum, whether it be writing, painting or drawing. A cafeteria invites you to take a break in the open air.
