PLAZA SAN MARTÍN
Square home to two monuments, including the Monumento del libertador José San Martin and the Monumento a los Caídos en Malvinas.
Two monuments can be admired in this square: the Monumento del libertador José San Martin, dedicated to the "liberator of colonialism" who liberated a good part of Latin America under the yoke of Spain. The bronze statue is accompanied by four allegories counting his exploits: the crossing of the Andes, the proclamation of the independence of Peru, the battle of Salta and the capture of Montevideo. The Monumento a los Caídos en Malvinas, on the other hand, is a Monument to the Dead bearing the engraved names of the 649 soldiers who fell in the Falklands War.
