PUENTE VIEJO
Old bridge mentioned in Ricardo Güiraldes' Don Segundo Sombra, linking houses and quiet countryside.
This bridge was built in 1857, and at that time a fee had to be paid to cross it. The work was carried out at the instigation of the city's first mayor, Don José E. Martínez. The bridge was first called "El Puente de los Martínez" (The Bridge of the Martínez) and later adopted the name we know today.
It is mentioned in Ricardo Güiraldes' work "Don Segundo Sombra": "At the exit of the village, about ten blocks from the central square, the old bridge curves over the river, joining the houses and the quiet countryside. »
