TREN BINACIONAL ARGENTINE – URUGUAY
Also christened Tren de los Pueblos Libre, this small train is the symbol of the union between Argentina and Uruguay. Rehabilitated since December 2011, he had been relaunched with great fanfare by Argentina's President Cristina Kirchner and his Uruguayan counterpart José Mujica. Unfortunately, 6 months after its handover, the train remained locked in its station of Pilar, near Buenos Aires, without any date or certainty of resumption of service. There are several reasons for this: recurrent problems on the routes, few passengers and the loss of the concession by MTD. The train can normally accommodate 140 passengers and liaises between Pilar (Argentina) and Paso de los Toros (Uruguay), via Basavilvaso, Villaguay and Concordia side Argentine, and then Salto, Guichon and Paysandú side Uruguayan.
