ESTACIÓN ASTROFÍSICA DE BOSQUE ALEGRE (EABA) - STATION D'ASTROPHYSIQUE DE BOSQUE ALEGRE
At the beginning of the 20th century, astronomy entered a new era, that of astrophysics (the theoretical physics of the stars) and cosmology (study of the Universe in general, and its evolution in particular, since its birth), under the effect in particular of the extraordinary consequences linked to the theory of relativity which disrupted our understanding of the cosmos and the events that took place there. All over the world, astronomy research centres must therefore modernize and reinvent themselves... This is the case in Argentina, with the creation of this astrophysics station located about forty kilometres southwest of Córdoba. In the 1940s, it acquired a giant telescope 1.54 m in diameter, the largest in the southern hemisphere! His work over the following decades included further exploration of deep space and accurate mapping of the positions of thousands of distant galaxies.
The site on which this observatory is located is worth the trip, especially since in addition to the traditional daytime visits it is possible to enjoy rather exceptional evenings of observation on site, moreover at altitude with a superb view over the whole region.
