MUSEO CASA ERNESTO CHE GUEVARA
Che Guevara's childhood home, transformed into a small museum retracing the history of this emblematic revolutionary
Although Che was born in Rosario, it was in Alta Gracia that he spent the first years of his life, from 1935 to 1943. The family then moved to the city of Córdoba. His parents had chosen the place of Alta Gracia thinking that the dry climate would be effective in fighting little Ernesto's repeated asthma attacks. The villa Nydia, which consists of ten rooms, a patio and a garage, bears this name because Nydia was the younger of the first owner. This childhood home of Che was transformed into a small museum in 2001, a museum that retraces the journey of this emblematic revolutionary, while insisting on the period when he was not yet Che Guevara, but simply "Ernestito". Sitting on the stoop, a pretty statue of the child invites us to enter to discover photos, some objects, a short film, or a replica of La Poderosa, the motorcycle that took him on his first initiatory trip through South America. There is also a bicycle that he owned, less known than his motorized counterpart, which nevertheless took him on his first trip across the continent. You can linger on a large map detailing his travels and other adventures throughout South America. If the museum is not in itself a monument that cannot be ignored in the region, it has enough symbolic value for the companions Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez to have made the trip in their time, on July 22nd 2006 exactly.
