MUSEO MANUEL DE FALLA
Museum featuring devotional objects by the famous Andalusian composer Manuel de Falla, a mini piano and various concert documents
Music lovers should not miss the Los Espinillos (The Mimosas) chalet, the last home of the famous Andalusian composer Manuel de Falla (1876-1946). Among the most famous works by this friend of Debussy and Ravel, who renewed Spanish classical music, are L'Amour sorcier, La Vie brève, Le Tricorne and the very impressionist Nuits dans les jardins d'Espagne.
Fleeing in 1939 the Franco dictatorship that had just won the Civil War, he landed in Buenos Aires to take charge of the Institución Cultural Española. He integrates himself into the musical world of the Port, gives performances at the Teatro Colón and creates his orchestral suite Homenajes. In search of healthier air for his fragile health, it was in this peaceful chalet in the sierras of Córdoba that he spent the last years of his life between 1942 and 1946, before his remains were repatriated with great pomp and circumstance to his native city of Cádiz. Here in Alta Gracia, he worked tirelessly on what was to become his masterpiece, Atlántida, an ambitious opera that he did not manage to complete before his death.
In the museum we find some pious objects of this fervent Catholic, manuscript scores, photos and correspondence, a portrait by Picasso, the Eavestaff mini-piano used by the master, as well as many documents about the concerts he conducted at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
Note that it is possible to buy a common ticket to visit the three museums of the city.
