REMOLCADOR SAINT CHRISTOPHER
Wreck of the tug Saint Christopher, on its side near the shore, part of the Ushuaïa cityscape.
The wreck of the tug Saint Christopher lying on the shore just a few metres from the shore, just west of the port of Ushuaia, is now part of the town's landscape and was also highlighted in 2010 during the bicentennial of Argentina. Built in the United States during World War II and named Justice, the tug was sold in 1953 to the Portègne company Salvamar which affected it in the Beagle canal. Its main mission will be to attempt to tow the wreck of the German ship Monte Cervantes, who had failed in 1930 near the Phare lighthouse and whose 1 550 passengers and crew could have been rescued. The failure of this mission (the Monte Cervantes flows completely), contributes to the company's bankruptcy and Saint Christopher - and its technical problems - is abandoned in the Bay of Ushuaia. In 1957, we put it in its current place where it will delight the future tourists who take pictures of its battered silhouette under the sunset sun.
