As its name suggests, the museum is dedicated to the region, its fauna and flora. The most interesting part of the visit is the collection devoted to the Mapuche and other early inhabitants of the region, the pueblos originarios. It contains information on the habitat, culture, society, traditions, and interethnic relations of the peoples of Tierra del Fuego (Yámana and Selk'nam), Southern Patagonia (Tehuelche) and Northern Patagonia (Mapuche).
