HÔTEL DE CHAZERAT
One of Clermont-Ferrand's finest examples of architecture, based on the Parisian model between courtyard and garden.
Along the former Rue des Nobles, stands the property of the last of the Intendants of Auvergne, Charles-Antoine Claude de Chazerat. It's one of the finest examples of 18th-century Clermont-Ferrand architecture. Its originality lies in the free adaptation of the Parisian model of hotels between courtyard and garden, with the use of an oval courtyard borrowed from the Hôtel Amelot de Gournay in Paris. This layout was chosen to suit the particular shape of the plot. Today, it is the headquarters of the Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles. Take advantage of its opening hours to enter the courtyard. The rest of the building is sometimes open to visitors on guided tours.
