Located in a neoclassical building inaugurated in 1903 in the heart of the city of Clermont-Ferrand, the Bargoin Museum offers particularly rich and original collections.
It houses two departments: one devoted to archaeology and the other to textiles.
The archaeology department offers a rich and varied insight into the Arverne territory by extending the simple chronology to the discovery of forms, materials, ways of life and know-how. The collections are mainly from excavations carried out in Clermont-Ferrand and the Clermont area.
The textile arts department offers a wide panorama of non-European textiles from the 18th to the 21st century. Beyond the exceptional textiles (forms, materials, meanings), it is above all the people who are highlighted. Those who weave, dye, sew, create, live and pass on. The Textile Arts Department brings together pieces from the Near and Middle East, Central and Eastern Asia and America: clothing, carpets, furniture and religious objects. In order to respect their fragility, they cannot be displayed on a permanent basis, which makes it possible to hold regular exhibitions on varied and attractive themes.
