STROLL IN THE HISTORIC HEART OF CLERMONT
Stroll in the historic heart of Clermont-Ferrand offering an opportunity to discover its construction over the centuries.
Departure from Place de Jaude, in the shadow of the statue of Vercingetorix. Strollers who like window shopping, coffee breaks and detours will have a pleasant half-day. The faster ones will take little time. Continue towards the pedestrian street of 11-November to the Place Gaillard. Then head towards the Saint-Pierre market, passing by the Gaillard hall. If the hall is open, take advantage of its exhibition; the entrance is free. On the other side of the square, the small Saint-Pierre street runs along the courtyard of the Fontfreyde Hotel. Here you are on rue des Gras, which you will have to climb to reach the imposing façade of the cathedral. Take the stairs on the left and walk to the city hall. For a quiet stop, walk down Rue du Port to the Notre-Dame-du-Port Basilica. Go up the street to the rue Pascal, which once housed the great notables of Clermont-Ferrand, to the place du Terrail. The Savaron and Abbé Girard streets will lead you to the other side of the hill on the Ballainvilliers square and its terraces. If the weather is nice, why not go to the Lecoq garden? On the way, you will discover the obelisk, called "pyramid" by the Clermontois. Otherwise, go back to the cathedral via the rue de la Treille, then go down to the place de Jaude and the Opera, via the rue des Chaussetiers or the place Sugny where the view opens on the puy de Dôme. This walk allows you to discover the construction of the city over the centuries.
