WAT RATCHANATDARAM
This temple, with its original architecture inspired by a Sri Lankan temple, is a place of meditation for monks...
Built by Rama III in 1846, originally intended only as a chedi, the temple soon became a place of meditation for monks, for whom cells were built. Standing 36 m high, it features 37 metal spires representing the 37 virtues of enlightenment in the Buddhist religion. The original architecture was inspired by a Sri Lankan temple itself influenced by 3rd-century BC Indian architecture. In 2005, the temple applied to become a Unesco protected monument.
