WAT SATTHATHAM
A vast temple on the outskirts of town, distinguished by its masonry and murals depicting the life of Buddha.
Also known as Wat Mon, this is a vast temple just outside the city, famous for its bot (chapel) whose roof is made entirely of precious wood. The interior is beautifully carved. The murals depict scenes from the life of Buddha and episodes from the Ramayana. The temple is famous for its Kalamae-raman, caramel and coconut desserts wrapped in betel leaf. On site, you can admire the skill of the group of women who concoct these sweets in a giant wok.
