WAT PHRA SRI SANPHET
One of Ayutthaya's beautiful temples, with 3 large chedi lined up in honour of the 3 kings, housed a statue of the standing Buddha
This is one of the most beautiful temples in Ayutthaya. It is in fact the former royal chapel within the palace compound. Built in 1350, this temple is characterized by its three large chedi lined up side by side, erected in honor of the first three kings of Ayutthaya. It also contained a standing Buddha statue, 16 m high and covered in 263 kg of gold. The Burmese seized the gold and left the statue damaged. Rama I recovered it and had it sealed inside the green-mosaic chedi at Bangkok's Wat Pho, now known as the Sri Sanphet chedi.
