WAT PHRA THAT DOI KHAM
Golden Temple with an imposing 17-metre statue of a seated Buddha overlooking the valley, the golden chedi with Buddha relics
Located some ten kilometers southwest of Chiang Mai, the "Golden Temple" is well worth a visit. Perched on a hill, it is traditionally reached by a long staircase protected by nagas, but access by road is also possible. The main attraction is an imposing 17-metre-high statue of a seated Buddha that dominates the valley. Built in 687, the golden chedi is the site's oldest structure and houses Buddha relics. The view of the surrounding area from the temple is spectacular.
