WAT CHIANG MAN
A temple with two viharn, housing two statues: Phra Sila ( century), and Phra Setang Khamani ( century).
Built in 1296-1297 by King Mengrai, it is the oldest in the city. At the entrance, a stone slab covered with an archaic Thai script would mark the place where the king died. The two hivarn are of little interest but contain two statues: Phra Sila is an Indian statue in rocky Buddha bas-relief (very rare), from the 8th century. The other, Phra Setang Khamani, is believed to date from the 7th century and comes from Lopburi. Sculpted in rock crystal, it is crowned with gold and rests on a gold base as well.
