WAT CHED YOT
Wat Ched Yot is a temple associated with the Year of the Serpent, designed by Thai architects on the model of the Mahabodhi temple.
Built in 1453 by King Tilokaraja, the eleventh of the Mengrai dynasty, and intended to collect his own ashes. The main building is a seven-pointed chedi. It was designed on the model of the Mahabodhi Temple by Thai architects sent by the king on pilgrimage to Bodhgaya in India, the place where Buddha reached Enlightenment. The stucco sculptures on the walls of Maha Chedi are worth a visit. Each temple is associated with a Chinese astrological sign in the Lanna tradition, the Wat Ched Yot is thus associated with the year of the Serpent.
