WIANG KUM KAM
Home to the ruins of the ancient Lanna capital founded by King Mengrai, Wat Chedi Liam is the preserved temple.
This site contains the ruins of the ancient capital of Lanna built by King Mengrai after his victory over the Haripunchai kingdom in the 13th century. Repeated flooding from the Ping River led the king to build a new capital, Chiang Mai. Today, the ruins of various temples can be admired, Wat Chedi Liam being the only well-preserved and still active. An information center is located at the entrance of the site. It is the occasion of a nice walk in a small Thai village, to be done by bike or by carriage...
